Falling behind...
Wow, I'm way behind on my posts. I guess working 90 hours a week will do that to ya. I promise to catch up this weekend.

Best. Night. Ever!
I sent in my app for the Illinois State Police Academy. I have 121 days to whip my ass into shape. And I'll take all the help I can get. If anyone ever wants to work out/go for a run/play tennis/or anything else, please let me know.

Too Little Too Late
So Obama is pissed at AIG for spending their bailout money on bonuses for executives. Haven't we heard this story already? If you look back a few posts, you'll see that I commented on this exact same atrocity. While small businesses and the general consumer are struggling, along with many of these big businesses that are getting the bailouts, the only people who seem to be getting anything in return are the CEO's who are stealing our money.
I guess we, as a country full of lazy people who won't get off the couch to save our own asses, can just keep complaining about it. As my Dad always says, if this kind of crap was happening when he was growing up, his generation would have had Washington burned to the ground a long time ago.

Obama's Budget
Last week, Obama addressed Congress about his new plan to save the economy. I thought it was a bit dramatic and overplayed, but I think he made a couple of good suggestions...
10 things you should know about Obama's plan (but probably don't)
The plan:
1. Makes a $634 billion down payment on fixing health care, a beginning for a more efficient, more affordable healthcare system that covers every American.
2. Reduces taxes for 95% of working Americans. And for families making less than $250,000, taxes won't go up at all.
3. Invests more than $100 billion in clean energy technology, creating millions of green jobs for Americans that can never be outsourced.
4. Brings troops home from Iraq on a set schedule, finally bringing the war to a close and freeing up almost $10,000,000,000 a month.
5. Reverses growing income inequality by letting the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire. This will shift the focus to strengthening the middle class.
6. Drops multi-billion dollar tax loopholes for big oil companies.
7. Creates the largest increase ever in grants to help families pay for college.
8. Cuts the deficit in half by 2013.
9. Greatly increases funding for the SEC and the CFTC - the agencies that police Wall Street.
10. Tells it straight. Obama's budget will lay out America's priorities, including what they cost and how they'll he paid for. No more smokescreens and lies.

I'm finally going to graduate!
Just a bit of gloating and excitement today...
This past Thursday I finally got my letter in the mail informing me that my criminal background check was completed and I can begin my internship. After almost two months of waiting, the Illinois State Police have hired me to complete a 480 hour internship so that I will be able to graduate from Illinois State University this May with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice Sciences with a focus in Linguistics and Forensics!
The funniest part though, after an almost two month background check, you'd think they would know NOT to address my letter to "Mr. Erin Metz."
My first day of interning will be tomorrow! And I couldn't be more excited. I get to drive to Springfield on Thursday to get fitted for my vest too! Wish me luck!
